Last updated: 25 October 2026
Fair arrangements. Clear communication. Personalised support.
1. Introduction
GCTV Media is a video production and smartphone filmmaking education business based in Timaru, South Canterbury, New Zealand.
We aim to provide a fair and transparent approach to refunds, cancellations and rescheduling.
This policy applies to paid online educational courses and personalised instruction provided by GCTV Media.
It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
2. Courses Covered by This Policy
Our personalised online courses include:
Introduction to Smartphone Video
A three-hour personalised online course delivered through Zoom or another agreed video conferencing service.
Smartphone Video / Filmmaking — Six-Week Course
Six personalised online teaching sessions, each approximately three hours long, providing a total of 18 hours of instruction.
Students may also receive access to online learning materials, workbooks and other educational resources.
The specific services and materials included in each purchase will be described on the relevant course page.
3. Expressions of Interest
Submitting an expression of interest does not constitute a course purchase or confirmed enrolment.
No course fee is payable merely for registering interest.
This refund policy becomes relevant when a student purchases a paid course or service.
4. Cancellation Before Tuition Begins
GCTV Media voluntarily offers a full refund where a student:
- Requests cancellation within seven calendar days of purchase.
- Has not attended any personalised teaching session.
- Has not accessed substantive paid learning materials.
Where these conditions are not met, we will review the cancellation request fairly, considering the circumstances and services or resources already provided.
Nothing in this section limits any additional cancellation or refund rights provided by applicable law.
5. Cancellation After Accessing Learning Materials
Students may receive access to learning resources through our online learning platform before their first personalised teaching session.
If a student requests cancellation after accessing substantive paid materials, we will consider:
- The nature and value of the resources supplied.
- Any personalised preparation or services already provided.
- Whether the resources or services were supplied as described.
- Any applicable statutory rights.
We may offer an appropriate full or partial refund after considering these factors.
Accessing learning materials does not automatically remove rights provided by applicable consumer legislation.
6. Cancellation After Tuition Has Commenced
Students who wish to discontinue a course after personalised instruction has started should contact GCTV Media as soon as possible.
Refunds will be considered fairly, taking account of:
- Tuition already completed.
- Remaining undelivered teaching sessions.
- Learning materials supplied.
- Any agreed and clearly disclosed charges.
- Applicable consumer protection requirements.
Where appropriate, a partial refund may be calculated based on the undelivered portion of the course, allowing for reasonable deductions where lawful.
GCTV Media will explain any refund calculation to the student.
7. Rescheduling Personal Teaching Sessions
We understand that circumstances can change, particularly when arranging online instruction across different countries and time zones.
Students may request to reschedule a teaching session.
At least 24 hours’ notice
We normally offer rescheduling without additional charge when at least 24 hours’ notice is provided, subject to arranging a mutually suitable alternative time.
Less than 24 hours’ notice
Requests made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be considered individually.
We will take account of illness, emergencies, technical difficulties and other reasonable circumstances.
8. Missed Sessions
Students are encouraged to attend sessions at the agreed date and time.
If a student misses a session without giving notice, GCTV Media may offer an alternative appointment at its discretion.
Where a replacement session cannot reasonably be provided without additional cost, we will explain the available options.
Any charges or consequences relating to missed sessions must be reasonable, previously disclosed where applicable, and consistent with consumer protection law.
9. Cancellation or Rescheduling by GCTV Media
If GCTV Media needs to cancel or postpone a confirmed teaching session, we will notify the student as soon as reasonably possible.
We will offer a replacement session at a mutually suitable time, without additional charge.
If we are unable to provide the agreed service within a reasonable timeframe, the student may be entitled to an appropriate refund or another remedy.
Any applicable statutory rights will be respected.
10. Internet and Technical Problems
Online tuition depends on suitable internet connections, devices and video conferencing services.
If a significant technical problem prevents a session from proceeding or being completed, GCTV Media and the student will work together to identify a reasonable solution.
This may include:
- Continuing the session after the interruption.
- Providing replacement teaching time.
- Rescheduling the session.
- Offering an appropriate refund or other remedy where required.
11. Digital Educational Materials
Course materials may include online tutorials, workbooks, videos, reference documents and other resources.
These materials are intended for the enrolled student’s personal educational use.
Access to paid educational materials may begin shortly after payment and enrolment confirmation.
Students should review the relevant course description before purchase.
Where a statutory withdrawal or cancellation right applies, GCTV Media will comply with the relevant requirements concerning digital content and services.
12. Payments and Refund Processing Through Stripe
GCTV Media uses Stripe, an independent third-party payment processing provider, to process online payments.
GCTV Media does not collect or store customers’ full credit or debit card details.
Where a refund is approved, it will ordinarily be processed through Stripe to the original payment method.
Depending on the payment provider, card issuer and financial institution, refunds may take several business days to appear in the customer’s account.
International payments may be subject to currency conversion differences applied by financial institutions.
Any refund amount due under applicable law will be honoured.

13. International Students
GCTV Media provides online education to students who may live outside New Zealand.
This policy is based on our New Zealand business operations.
However, mandatory consumer protections may also apply in the student’s country.
Where applicable international law provides additional cancellation, withdrawal or refund rights, those rights will be respected.
14. New Zealand Consumer Protection
GCTV Media operates in accordance with applicable New Zealand consumer protection legislation.
Under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, services must meet relevant statutory guarantees, including reasonable care and skill.
Where a service does not meet an applicable guarantee, customers may be entitled to a remedy.
The appropriate remedy depends on the nature and seriousness of the problem and may include correction of the service, cancellation, a partial refund or a full refund.
Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or modifies statutory consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
